Professional ceramic coating vs. a DIY kit.
A spray or kit from the auto parts store can add some gloss for a few months. A professional ceramic coating is applied very differently, and that’s where the years of protection come from.
01Prep decides how long it lastsMost of the work happens before any coating goes on: wash, iron and clay decontamination, polishing and a panel wipe. A coating only bonds well to clean, oil-free clear coat.
02Swirls fixed, not sealed inA coating locks in whatever is underneath. We correct swirls and haze first, so the gloss you see is your paint, not trapped defects.
03Cured indoorsThe coating cures in our climate-controlled studio, out of the rain, dust and morning dew that can spoil one applied in a driveway.

Our ceramic coating process
- 01InspectionWe check the paint under studio lighting for swirls, scratches and old wax or sealant that would stop a coating from bonding.
- 02Wash & decontaminationHand wash, iron-fallout remover and clay, so the coating bonds to clean clear coat, not to dirt.
- 03Correction, if neededA coating locks in the finish underneath. Light polishing is part of the prep; deeper swirls need a dedicated paint correction.
- 04Panel prepEvery panel is wiped down to remove polishing oils so nothing sits between the paint and the coating.
- 05Application & curingThe coating is applied and leveled section by section, then cures indoors, out of the rain and morning dew.
- 06WalkthroughWe show you how water behaves on the coated paint and go over washing tips before you leave.

We apply Skygloss ceramic coatings in 2-, 3- and 5-year versions, and each is warrantied for the years in its name: the 2-year coating for 2 years, the 5-year coating for 5. Your quote names the exact coating and spells out its warranty terms.

Aftercare
A few habits keep the result looking new for longer. We go over all of this at pickup.
- Wait about a week before the first wash while the coating fully cures.
- Hand wash every week or two with a pH-neutral soap and clean microfiber mitts.
- Avoid brush car washes and harsh degreasers that wear the coating down.
- Rinse winter salt off often, especially the lower panels.
- Dry with a soft microfiber towel or a blower to avoid water spots.
- Remove bird droppings and tree sap promptly.

How long does ceramic coating last?
Professional ceramic coatings typically last 2 to 5+ years, depending on the package, driving conditions and how well the vehicle is maintained. We offer 2-year, 3-year and 5-year Skygloss coatings, each warrantied for the years in its name.
Do I need paint correction first?
A coating locks in the finish underneath it, so swirls and scratches should be corrected first. We’ll recommend the right level of paint correction, if any, in your quote.
Is a professional ceramic coating better than a DIY kit?
For lasting protection, yes. Most of the difference is the prep: we decontaminate and polish the paint, apply the coating in our indoor studio and let it cure out of the weather, and our Skygloss coatings come with a 2-, 3- or 5-year warranty. A kit can add gloss, but it’s only as good as the prep underneath it.
How long will you have my car?
Ceramic coating takes about 1 day including preparation and curing. Exact timing is confirmed after we inspect your vehicle.
